The Lieber group at Harvard University runs a program on integrating electronics into the brain as neural-network-like mesh, delivered by syringe injection into targeted brain regions. Its own research page describes the program as aimed at basic neuroscience first, then treatment of neurological and neurodegenerative disease, brain and spinal cord injury, and brain-machine interfaces.

Device entries

What the group page says it is working on

  • Multifunctional electrical, chemical and optical recording and stimulation in the mesh.
  • Highly multiplexed electronic networks.
  • Modular automated systems for syringe-assisted injection and connection, so other researchers can adopt the method.

Limits

Preclinical in the device entry. This brief states only what the group’s own page and the device entry say.
