Brain Interchange first-in-human stroke study
CorTec’s Brain Interchange system moved into human use with stroke rehabilitation as lead indication, per the company program site.
- BioWorld reported the first implant in a stroke patient in late July 2025 [1].
- A University of Washington lab reported cursor control by its first participant in April 2026 [2].
- In an Oct 2026 Badische Zeitung interview, CorTec co-founder Martin Schuttler said stroke patients steered the computer game Pong by thought alone, and that targeted stimulation supported relearning of movements; regional-press interview, not peer reviewed [3].
The system is described by the company as the first European implantable BCI with an FDA-approved (IDE) US trial.
