Utah cortical visual prosthesis human work
The University of Utah’s cortical visual prosthesis thread (Moran Eye Center) reports human intracortical stimulation for artificial vision:
- Fernandez E, et al. Visual percepts evoked with an intracortical 96-channel microelectrode array inserted in human occipital cortex. J Clin Invest. 2021 [1].
- Utah news (2021): a blind woman perceived simple shapes using the brain implant [2].
- Utah news (2023): the approach provided a form of artificial vision in three individuals with blindness [3].
The implant is a 96-channel intracortical microelectrode array; the array’s manufacturer identity is not restated in the Utah sources used here, so no device link is asserted.
